Gunnar Stein claims medalist honors at 2019 GLIAC North Championship

BIG RAPIDS -- SVSU junior Gunnar Stein was crowned the medalist at the 2019 GLIAC North Championship after posting a one stroke victory in the event. Stein carded a final round 69 (-2) to finish as the only player under-par after rounds of 72-69 (-1). 

It marks Stein's second career victory, adding to the win at the OVU Highlands Cup Challenge in October of 2017. 

Stein edged GVSU's Nick Krueger for the title in leading the Cardinals to a third place finish. SVSU shot rounds of 297-293, ending up nine shots behind host Ferris State. GVSU won the event by three shots over Ferris with a 578 total. 

Mitch Hughes followed his round one 72 with a 76 on Sunday, tying for 10th place with a 148 score (+6). Alex Dice ended up tying for 12th after twin rounds of 75 (+8) while Jared Lyons finished Sunday's scoring with a 73 after a 79 on Saturday. He was +10 on the weekend and tied for 16th place. Brady Dice had rounds of 78-77 and was 21st overall.

Jordan Weaver finished 22nd overall after shooting rounds of 78-78 in the tournament. He competed as an individual in the event.

SVSU heads to South Haven, Michigan this upcoming weekend for the HawksHead Invitational (Sep. 28-29). The tournament will be held at the HawksHead Golf Links.
