BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest, falling to Ferris State University on the road Saturday in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Cardinals took a four-point lead after three free throws from Darnell Hoskins Jr. with 2:37 to play. The Bulldogs (RV) scored the final eight points of the game and topped SVSU 88-84. The loss drops the Cardinals to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the GLIAC.
How it Happened:
- The contest started back-and-forth, but the Cardinals were able to build a 17-11 lead after a 3-pointer from Darnell Hoskins Jr. with 11:20 to play in the first half.
- After Ferris State took a two-point lead, SVSU answered with threes from Hoskins Jr. and James Toohey to go back in front 24-20.
- Ferris State went up 40-35 at the break after a 3-pointer from Lee Higgins at the end of the first half.
- With the Bulldogs up 12 with 15 minutes to play, the Cardinals began to chip away at the deficit.
- Hoskins Jr. cut the Ferris State lead to three with a triple with 8:22 to play.
- The Cardinals went in front 81-80 with 3:13 to play on another Hoskins Jr. triple and he extended the lead on the next possession to four points after converting on three free throws.
- Higgins scored the final eight points of the game, including a pair of triples to secure the win for the Bulldogs.

- Darnell Hoskins Jr. led the Cardinals with 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting, hitting seven 3-pointers. He added four assists.
- James Toohey finished with 14 points and three steals.
- Delano Smith recorded 10 points and seven rebounds, while Tyler Witz added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
- The Cardinals shot 27-of-66 from the field, 10-of-23 from deep, and 20-of-27 at the line.
- Lee Higgins led the Bulldogs with 24 points, while Dorian Aluyi finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
- The Bulldogs outrebounded the Cardinals 42-35.
