UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team rolled past Great Lakes Christian College 92-57 on Sunday evening at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena. The Cardinals move to 4-2 overall on the season with the victory over the Crusaders.
How it happened:
- After the Crusaders hit the opening 3-point basket, SVSU responded with back-to-back three-pointers by Alijah Harrison and James Toohey.
- SVSU began to separate themselves on the scoreboard with an 11-0 run to build a 30-14 lead midway through the first half.
- Behind 14 first-half points from Toohey, the Cardinals built a 51-34 advantage into the halftime break.
- In the second half, SVSU continued to pull away, going on a 9-0 run out of the first media timeout.
- SVSU outscored the Crusaders in the second half 41-23 to earn the victory.
Inside the Box Score:
- Toohey finished with 17 points on 6-12 shooting and 5-8 from three-point range, leading the Cardinals in scoring.
- Harrison added 11 points for SVSU, while Tyler Witz had 10 points.
- Tre Garrett came off the bench and finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Tyrik Singh also added 10 points and nine rebounds.
- Maurice Barnett led all players with 10 rebounds, as SVSU outrebounded GLCC 51-30.
- The Cardinals went 38-70 from the field, 8-22 from three, and 8-9 from the free-throw line. Great Lakes Christian was 22-70 from the field, 7-28 from deep, and 6-7 from the line.
- Kylan Shipp led GLCC with 13 points.
