DETROIT – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team dropped a second straight to Wayne State University to close a weekend Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series in Detroit.
The Cardinals fell behind by 12 at the half and the Warriors went on for an 86-67 win. The loss drops SVSU to 3-11 overall and 3-11 in the GLIAC with two games remaining in the regular season.
Myles Belyeu led the Cardinals with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, hitting six 3-pointers. Delano Smith added 13 points, while Zane Foster recorded 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.
The Cardinals shot 24-of-59 from the field, 10-of-26 from deep, and 9-of-17 at the line, finishing with eight assists, eight steals, and 11 turnovers.
The Warriors were led by three players with 20-plus point performances, highlighted by 26 points from Darian Owens-White.
The Cardinals close the regular season at home with two games against Davenport University starting at 2 pm Friday at the James E. O'Neill Arena.
