UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- The Saginaw Valley State men's basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon looking to erase its three-game losing streak at home against GLIAC North opponent Michigan Tech. The Cardinals shot only 40.0% from the field and allowed a season-high in points as SVSU fell 93-72 to the Huskies. 

Saginaw Valley tied the game at the 19:14 of the first half on its first possession of the game with a jumper from Malik Garner. Michigan Tech went on a 9-0 scoring run and jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on the Cardinals. SVSU cut the deficit to five with a basket from C.J. Turnage on the next drive. A pair of free throw makes from Garrett Hall kept the Huskies lead at 9-7 just before the media timeout. 

Michigan Tech continued its hot start following the stoppage with a made jumper and a corner three that restored its seven-point edge over SVSU. A three-pointer from Garner kept the Cardinals within striking distance at 14-10 with 13:32 to play in the first half. MTU then took its first double-digit lead of the contest with a pair of threes at the 12:40 mark. 

The Cardinals kept the deficit within ten points or less for the next five minutes of play, getting timely baskets Turnage and Mike Wells that made the score 24-15 with 9:48 left to play in the half. The Huskies would take control of the game after a media stoppage by taking a 14-point lead over SVSU. Garrett Hall would counter the Huskies offense with his first three-pointer of the game and chasing history to become the school's record holder in the category. 

Hall would knock down two more shots from beyond the arc before the first half would come to a close. The Huskies led 38-31 following Hall's long ball and responded with a 10-2 scoring run of their own to take a 48-33 to the locker room at halftime. 

Michigan Tech scored to begin the second half and take its largest lead of the game, a 17-point edge on the Cardinals. Mike Wells would record his first points of the second half on SVSU's next possession. The Huskies would then take over on offense and continue to shoot well on Saginaw Valley. MTU led 57-41 at the 15:35 mark when a long three-pointer gave the Huskies a 19-point edge as the game went to a media timeout. 

A free throw after the media timeout gave the Huskies its first 20-point lead of the contest. Hall would connect on a jumper to briefly push the MTU lead back to 19. A pair of misses from the Cardinals resulted in a made layup from Michigan Tech, who now held a 69-46 advantage with 9:51 left to go. 

The Huskies lead would grow to as much as 28 points before Garrett Hall would knock down his fourth three-pointer of the contest to set the new school-record for career three-pointers. His three at the 7:31 mark cut SVSU's deficit to 77-54.

Michigan Tech then settled in on defense and limited the Cardinals chances for a comeback. The Huskies would make a pair of free-throws and convert on a three just extended its lead to 28 points and sealed the win for the visitors. 

Saginaw Valley would make a pair of free throws with 25 seconds remaining that made the final score 93-72 and handing the Cardinals its fifth loss of the season.

• Garrett Hall was the leading scorer in tonight's contest, finish with a career-high 29 points by shooting a career-best 9-for-19 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Hall also collected six rebounds and was named as the Meijer "Player of the Game".
• Caleb Davis finished the contest with 12 points and pulled in five rebounds (four offensive boards). 
• C.J. Turnage scored eight points and recorded eight rebounds, two steals and one block coming off the bench for SVSU. 
• Hall surpassed Julian Taylor to hold the new school record for most three-pointers made as a Cardinal. Garrett now has 186 makes from beyond the arc and has played in 15 games so far this season. He played 35 minutes off the bench in tonight's contest.

Saginaw Valley State men's basketball concludes its homestand on Thursday night with a matchup against the GLIAC North division leader Ferris State Bulldogs. The Cardinals look to erase its four-game losing skid against FSU, who downed Northwood 91-59 on Saturday night in Big Rapids. Tip-off from O'Neill Arena is set for 8:00 p.m.
