UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team enters the 2016 GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed after claiming a share of the regular season championship for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Cardinals (22-6, 18-4 GLIAC) will host No. 8 seed Walsh University (14-12, 12-10 GLIAC) in the first round quarterfinal matchup, set for 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (Mar. 1) at SVSU's James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena. SVSU won the only matchup between the teams this season, a 94-89 decision on January 3rd.

SVSU's GLIAC championship was the fourth in school history and the first since the 1984-85 season. The back-to-back 20 win season has not happened since the 84-85 and 85-86 campaigns. The 22-6 overall record marks the best for the program since joining the ranks of the NCAA Division II level.

Tuesday's quarterfinal home game marks the second straight season the Cards have hosted one, as they defeated the University of Findlay in last year's quarterfinal round. Saginaw Valley State was ranked No. 2 in Wednesday's Midwest Region Rankings, right behind top-seeded Bellarmine University.
