Looking for its first NCAA Division II Playoff Appearance in program history, the SVSU men's basketball team is ranked No. 3 in the first Midwest Regional Rankings, released on Wednesday (Feb. 17) afternoon.

The nationally 12th-ranked Cardinals sit in the third spot with a 19-4 overall record in Division II play and the same record in regional contests. Bellarmine University (Ky.) is ranked second in the region (19-4, 18-3) while the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (17-3, 17-3) holds down the top spot in the region.

The top eight teams from the region will advance to the NCAA Tournament and the league tournament champions from the GLIAC, GMAC and GLVC will automatically qualify. Weekly rankings will be released the next two Wednesdays and the final tournament selections will happen Sunday, March 6th.

Saginaw Valley hits the road Thursday (Feb. 18) for an 8:00 p.m. contest at Grand Valley State University looking to secure its first GLIAC championship since the 1984-85 season with a victory over the Lakers.
