UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU men's basketball team took its eight game win streak on the road for a matchup with the University of Findlay on Thursday (Jan. 7) evening. After trailing for much of the game and taking a lead in the second half, the Cardinals couldn't complete the comeback and would fall to the Oilers, 75-70.

After Garrett Hall opened the game's scoring, the Oilers held the lead mostly until three consecutive buckets from C.J. Turnage, Hall and Mitchell Baenziger gave the Cardinals a 12-10 advantage at the 13:07 mark of the first half. Wade Gelhaus made a layup at the 12:26 minute mark to give the Cardinals their last lead of the half, 14-12.

The Oilers took over for the rest of the period and gained an 11 point lead, their largest lead of the game, with 6:36 left in the frame.

SV would then trim the lead down to five before the period ended after a three-pointer and layup from Hall and Turnage made a layup in the final seconds, making the lead just five points for the home team at 38-33 after the opening 20 minutes of play.

With Findlay leading 43-38 at the 18:25 mark, the Cards scored six straight points and took the lead after Caleb Davis sunk a pair of free throws at the 15:51 minute mark.

The Cardinals held a 54-51 lead with 12:52 left in the game after a Findlay lead when Vincent Adams made consecutive layups to give the visitors their largest edge of the contest.

The Oilers pulled ahead with 7:30 left to play with the score 62-58. Findlay led by as many as seven points (68-61) but SVSU would cut the lead by three points as late as 13 seconds remaining when Hall made good on a layup attempt with 13 ticks left to make the score 73-70.

That's as close as the Cards would get, however, as the Oilers added another pair and would close out for the five point victory, 75-70.
