UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU men's basketball team defeated the Tiffin Dragons in GLIAC action Saturday (Dec. 5) afternoon at SVSU's O'Neill Arena to improve to 2-0 in league play.

The Cardinals' third straight victory was paced by Damon Bozeman's 22 points, as he also surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

The Cardinals sprinted to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game after a three-pointer from Bozeman and consecutive layups from Caleb Davis, C.J. Turnage and Bozeman.

The Dragons responded, evening the score at 14-14 at the 11:26 mark. The teams traded the lead throughout the first half until it ended with Tiffin leading by a thin margin of 34-32 heading into the halftime break.

SV came back from halftime ready to go, scoring 55 of their 87 points in the second half. Turnage made five unanswered points within the first minute of the second half, boosting the Cards to a lead that they maintained for the remainder of the game.

Saginaw Valley owned their biggest lead of 17points with 6:27 left in the game and closed out the game 14 points ahead, 87-73.

  • Bozeman posted a season-high 22 points and added three steals for the Cardinals. He went 11-of-13 from the free throw line and 3-of-4 from downtown.
  • Turnage added 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Mike Wells added a season-high 15 points, shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line and in the paint.
  • Garrett Hall contributed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. Caleb Davis recorded nine points and eight rebounds.
  • Devin Dixon grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Cardinals.
  • SVSU shot 43.8% (28-64) from the floor, while Tiffin shot 45.6% (31-68).
  • The Dragons posted 54 points from the paint compared to the Cardinals' 40, but SV shot 38.9% (7-18) from beyond the arc while the TU only put in 2 of 12 for a 15.4% from three.
  • Tony Kynard was the leading scorer for the Dragons with 27 points, shooting 12-of-21 from the floor.

Meijer "Player of the Game"

Bozeman was named the Meijer "Player of the Game" for posting a season high of 22 points and surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career.
