LOUISVILLE, KY - The SVSU men's basketball team got double-figure scoring from four different players, but it was not enough as the Cardinals dropped a very close 85-84 contest at Lewis University Saturday (Nov. 21) night.

The Cards built a nice lead in the first half, leading by as many as nine points in the game with 49 ticks to play in the opening 20 minutes of play with the score 42-33. They would carry a seven point advantage into the halftime break at 42-35.

The Flyers worked their way back and took the lead at the 16:39 marker of the second half with the score 45-44.

Saginaw Valley led by seven points with 1:09 showing on the clock after C.J. Turnage made good on a jumper.

With 12 seconds left in the game, Lewis's Miles Simelton made good on the back end of two free throws to cut the deficit to 84-83.

After a pair of missed Cardinal free throws, the Flyers got the ball back with 10 seconds left and Simelton connected on a lay up with just four seconds left, giving the home team an 85-84 advantage.

A last-second downcourt pass and mid-air lay up did not fall for the Cardinals and the Flyers escaped with the one-point regional victory.

Inside the Boxscore

  • Damon Bozeman had a team-high 20 points in the game. He added six rebounds and an assist for SVSU.
  • C.J. Turnage posted 18 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
  • Mitchell Baenziger made good on 4-of-5 shots from beyond the arc and finished with 14 points off the bench for Saginaw Valley.
  • Garrett Hall added 10 points while Caleb Davis had nine and matched Turnage's team-high seven boards.
  • Lewis shot 51.5% (35-68) from the floor and SVSU was hitting at a 41.8% (28-67) clip.
  • The Flyers held a narrow 40-38 edge on the glass and a 52-28 advantage in points in the paint.
  • SVSU's bench out-scored the Flyers' bench by a 22-7 margin.
