Cardinals Drop Road Contest to Cedarville, 65-55

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team fell to Cedarville 65-55 in their first road game of the 2012-13 season Thursday night (Nov. 15).

The Cardinals trailed 29-19 at the half and were led by Meijer"Player of the Game" Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) who scored eight of his team-high 16 points in the first half.  As a team SVSU shot 7-of-24 (29 percent) from the floor for the half.

Saginaw Valley would fall behind by as many as 17 points with 15:53 to play in the second half, but the Cardinal offense would come alive and respond with an 18-5 run over the next six minutes, sparked by three layups from Vincent Adams (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic HS), to cut the Cedarville lead to 47-44.  

The Yellow Jackets would hold the Cardinals to just three field goals over the final 8:35 of the game as they held on for the 65-55 victory.

Brett Beland (Menominee, Mich. / Menominee HS) added 11 points for the Cardinals, while Matt Burgess (Capac, Mich. / Capac HS) and Adams each added six points in the loss.

The Cardinals finished the game 20-of-52 (38 percent) from the floor and 5-of-18 (27 percent) from behind the three-point line.  

Saginaw Valley falls to 1-1 overall on the season and will continue their first road trip of the season at Central State (Ohio) on Saturday (Nov. 17). Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
