Saginaw Valley Falls to Northwood, 84-54

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team fell to Northwood, 84-54 today (Feb. 15). With the loss the Cardinals fall to 10-12 overall on the season and 6-9 in the GLIAC, while the Timberwolves improve to 15-7 overall on the season and 10-5 in the conference.

The Cardinals fell behind early and were unable to regain the lead through the entire first half of play. The Timberwolves went on a 10 point run until Saginaw Valley's Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind.) knocked down a jump shot cutting the Northwood lead to 17 at the 8:21 mark of the first half.

Saginaw Valley was unable to close the gap as the Timberwolves took a 48-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Junior Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill HS) led the way for Saginaw Valley in the first half with five points, three rebounds and three assists, while Meijer "Player of the Game" Eli Redman (Bath, Mich.) also added five points.

The Cardinals would try and come back in the second half but were unable to gain momentum against Northwood.  Saginaw Valley came within 23 of the Timberwolves when Redman connected on a shot beyond the arc at the 15:49 mark of the second half.

Saginaw Valley would be unable to come back falling to Northwood, 84-54.

Redman ended the night with 14 points and two blocks, while Webb ended the night with ten points and Foster had six points and five assists for the Cardinals. Redman extended his school-record consecutive free throws made to 35 before missing his next attempt with about six minutes to go in the first half.

Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 18) when they return to James E. O'Neill Arena for their last home game of the season against Hillsdale. The game will be in conjunction with the SVSU Breast Cancer Survivor event and tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
