UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team was victorious over Ohio Dominican University tonight (Jan. 28), 102-64. The win improves the Cardinals to 10-9 on the season and 6-6 in the GLIAC, while the Panthers fall to 3-16 overall and 0-13 in the conference.

Saginaw Valley kept Ohio Dominican off the scoreboard for the first three minutes as they rolled out to an early 6-0 edge.

The Cardinals increased their lead to 16-4 after Brett Beland (Menominee, Mich.) slashed to the bucket for two with 11:55 left in the first half. Beland finished with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) would juke a defender and hit a jump shot to push the SVSU edge to 35-16 with 5:55 to play until halftime. Webb recorded 15 points on the day going 6-for-7 from the field.

Saginaw Valley remained tough on the defensive end as Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe HS) picked off a pass and slammed it home to put the Cardinals in front 39-20 late in the first half.

The Cardinals led by as many as 22 in the first half and took a 47-27 lead into the break. SVSU fired 66.7 percent from the floor on 20-of-30 shooting including 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Meijer "Player of the Game" Eli Redman (Bath, Mich.) finished the first half with 15 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the floor.

The Cardinals would extend their lead to 59-32 after Foster found Redman for a highlight reel alley oop dunk with 14:29 to play.

Ohio Dominican remained poised and went on a 9-0 run that cut the lead to 59-41 at the 13 minute mark of the second half.

Beland kept the Cardinal offense going, as he received a fast-break pass from Michael Fugate (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) and layed it up and in to take a 69-44 lead with 10:16 to go in regulation.

Redman would give the Cardinals their largest lead of the game, 102-62, after a layup in the final minute of the second half.

The Cardinals would go on to the 102-64 victory as Eli Redman finished with a career-high 35 points on 14-of-16 shooting from the floor, including 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

Saginaw Valley fired a season-best 65.1 percent from the floor going 41-for-63 on the afternoon. Eleven Cardinals entered the scoring column as SVSU ran away with the victory.

The Cardinals outrebounded the Panthers 41-22 and received 69 points from their bench. SVSU also cashed in on 58 points in the paint compared to just 22 for Ohio Dominican.

The Cardinals will return to action on Thursday (Feb. 2) when they visit Grand Valley for an 8:00 PM start.
