FINDLAY, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team fell to No. 9 Findlay today (Dec. 10), 75-63. The Cardinals fall to 4-5 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Findlay improves to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.
Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe) earned Meijer "Player of the Game" honors, finishing with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Foster would also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Oilers held a small advantage during much of the first half, but Jay Thames (Port Huron, Mich./Northern HS) would hit from beyond the arc with 5:33 to go in the half to bring the Cardinals within two, 25-23.
SVSU would tie up the ball game with 1:29 remaining in the first half when Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) drove to the lane for two and the foul. The Cardinals would enter the locker room down 35-32. Foster scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the first half.
The Cardinals would take their first lead of the game at 36-35 with 18:17 to go in the second half on a Michael Fugate (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) jump shot. The Oilers would respond with a 21-8 run and SVSU would find themselves down 56-44 with 9:07 to play.
Saginaw Valley would be unable to chip away at the Oiler lead down the strech, falling by a score of 75-63.
The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday (Dec. 17) when they travel to Lake Superior State for a 3:00 PM tipoff.
