Cardinals Fall to Warriors, 79-43

DETROIT, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team fell to Wayne State University tonight (Dec. 8), 79-43. The Cardinals fall to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC with the loss, while the Warriors improve to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in the conference.

Meijer "Player of the Game" Brett Beland came off the bench to score 12 points for the Cardinals, including 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

The Warriors ran out to an early 13-0 advantage as they started the contest shooting 8-of-10 from the field. Saginaw Valley would battle back as Eli Redman (Bath, Mich.) brought the Cardinals within two at 28-26 on a long range shot from behind the arc with 4:57 remaining in the half.  Wayne State answered the SVSU surge with a 10-0 run to take a 38-26 lead heading into the locker room. Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) recorded 10 points to lead the Cardinals in the first half.

The Cardinals found themselves down 60-35 after the Warriors opened the second half on a 32-9 run. Saginaw Valley was outscored 41-17 in the second half as they fell to Wayne State, 79-43.

SVSU will return to action on Saturday (Dec. 8) when they travel to Findlay for a 3:00 PM start.
