Cardinals Corral Mustangs, 102-62

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team defeated Marygrove College tonight (Dec. 3), 102-62.  The win lifts the Cardinals to 4-3 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 3-7 overall.

The Cardinals were led by Meijer "Player of the Game" Rob Clark (Saginaw, Mich.), who recorded his first double-double at SVSU with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

All 12 Cardinals entered the scoring column, including six in double figures.  Brett Beland (Menominee, Mich.) led the Cardinals in scoring with 15 points on 4-of-7 from the floor, including three triples, while Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe HS) dropped in 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and seven assists in the victory. Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) recorded 13 points on the evening, while Eli Redman (Bath, Mich.) posted 12 points in the winning effort.

Saginaw Valley jumped out to a 25-13 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half, and increased their advantage at the half to 39-24.

The Cardinals continued to dominate in the second half, going on a 35-12 run to double up the Mustangs 72-36 with 12:13 remaining in the contest.  Saginaw Valley would receive 47 points from their bench in the second half on their way to the 102-62 victory.

This marks the first time the Cardinals have scored 100 points in a game since 2006-07 season against Northwood in a 102-81 victory.

The Cardinal offense was well-tuned tonight shooting 54.3 percent from the field, including 21 assists, while only turning the ball over nine times.

Saginaw Valley used their size and aggressiveness as they outscored Marygrove 42-18 in the paint and 58-17 off the bench.   SVSU scored 63 points in the second half thanks to 62.9 percent shooting from the field and 15 assists. 

The Cardinals will look to increase their win streak to four when they travel to Wayne State on Thursday (Dec. 8) to battle the Warriors.  Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
