Cardinals Fall to Bulldogs in GLIAC Quarterfinals

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team fell to Ferris State tonight (Mar. 2), 65-59 in the quarterfinal match-up in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.

The Cardinals would enter the locker room at half time with a three-point lead over the Bulldogs as sophomore Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS) led the way with 11 points.  Saginaw Valley went up by as many as 12 points when junior Dan Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) connected on a shot from beyond the arch.  Senior Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich.) netted seven points and grabbed six rebounds, while sophomore Sean Romsek (Fowlerville, Mich.) added six points. 

Ferris State took control of the game at the 14:12 mark on a Justin Keenan lay-up. The Cardinals would continue to battle, pulling within one on two different occasions before falling to the Bulldogs, 65-59.

Saginaw Valley was led overall by Stephenson and Foster who both posted 18 points on the night.  Stephenson also led the Cardinals in rebounds with eleven and had one steal in his final game at Saginaw Valley State University.  Junior Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Godwin Heights HS) also added seven rebounds and four points.

The loss ends the 2009-10 season for Saginaw Valley as they finished with an overall record of 16-12 and 13-9 in the GLIAC.
