Saginaw Valley Falls to Northern Michigan, 74-71

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team was defeated by Northern Michigan today (Feb. 25) 74-71 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

The Cardinals has a two point advantage heading into the locker room at half time.  Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill HS) led the way for Saginaw Valley with 12 points, while sophomore Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS) added six points and five rebounds.  The Cardinals shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc in the first half.

The lead would go back and forth throughout the second half until 3:55 left in the contest.  Senior Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich.)  netted 13 points on the night for the Cardinals, while junior Dan Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) had nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Saginaw Valley shot 12-for-13 from the free throw line in the second half.   Foster ended the night with 21 points and six rebounds. 

With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 15-11 overall on the season, and 12-9 in the GLIAC, while Northern Michigan improves to 11-14 overall on the season and 8-13 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 28) when they travel to Michigan Tech. for their final regular season game.  Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
