Cardinals Win Fifth in a Row, Down Huskies 74-69

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team defeated Michigan Tech, 74-69 today (Jan. 21) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up.

Saginaw Valley entered the locker room deadlocked at 33 with the Huskies.  Junior Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Godwin Heights HS) led the Cardinals with 11 points while Meijer "Player of the Game" Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich.) added eight and grabbed five rebounds.  As a team the Cardinals shot 10-for-14 from the line.

Saginaw Valley came out of the locker room strong as took the lead for the remainder of the contest at 18:30 in the second half.  Stephenson netted eight points for the Cardinals while Jackson added 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.  Freshman Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill HS), sophomore Sean Romsek (Fowlerville, Mich.), and junior Adam Roberts (Adrian, Mich. / Madison HS) all added five points for Saginaw Valley.

Stephenson ended the night with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Jackson scored 21 points and had nine rebounds for Saginaw Valley. As a team the Cardinals shot 24-for 34 from the free throw line.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 11-5 overall on the season, and 8-3 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech. falls to 4-12 overall on the season and 3-8 in the GLIAC.  The Cardinals will return to action when they host Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 23).  Tip off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
