UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team defeated Tiffin University, 67-48 Monday (Jan. 11) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match-up.
The Cardinals would enter the locker room with a 31-19 advantage,
as Meijer "Player of the Game" Avery Stephenson
(Romulus, Mich.) led the way with 14 points and three
rebounds. Sophomore Greg Foster
(Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS) netted seven points and also
pulled down four rebounds for Saginaw Valley.
The Cardinals came out strong in the second frame as well, going
up by as many as 26 with 4:37 left in the contest. Freshman
Chris Webb
(Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill HS) helped to lead the way for
Saginaw Valley with nine points, while freshman Michael Fugate
(White Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake HS) added eight points.
Saginaw Valley was led by Stephenson who ended the night with 16 points and six rebounds. Junior Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Godwin Heights HS), Foster, and Fugate all added 11 points for the Cardinals.
With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 8-5 overall on the season
and 5-3 in the GLIAC, while Tiffin falls to 1-12 overall and 0-8 in
the GLIAC. The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday
(Jan. 16), when they travel to Wayne State. Tip off is at
5:30 pm.
