Saginaw Valley Defeats Ferris State, 86-72

BIG RAPIDS, Mich - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team defeated Ferris State University, 86-72 today (Jan. 9) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up.

The Cardinals would battle back after heading to the locker room being down by five in the first half.  Saginaw Valley was led by freshman Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich. /Arthur Hill HS) who netted 10 points and senior Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich.) who added nine points and two rebounds. 

Saginaw Valley would go on a 10 point run in the second half on a free throw shot by Stephenson.  Junior Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Godwin Heights HS) scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half and pulled down eight of his 14 rebounds which makes this his ninth double-double of the season.  The Cardinals shot 23-for-29 from behind the line in the second half.

Saginaw Valley was led by Stephenson who scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Webb netted 20 points.  Sophomore Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. /T.C. Howe HS) also added 17 points and pulled down four rebounds.

With the win the Cardinals improve to 7-5 overall on the season, and 4-3 in the GLIAC, while Ferris State falls to 6-6 overall on the season and 4-3 in the GLIAC.  Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Monday (Jan. 11) when they return home to host Tiffin University.  Tipoff is at 8:00 pm.
