MIDLAND, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State
University men’s basketball team fell to Northwood today
(Feb. 7) by a score of 49-46.
Saginaw Valley took a 23-18 lead into the locker room at the half.
Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich./East Tenn. State Univ.) led all
scorers in the half with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and
three-of-four from behind the arch. The Cardinals managed a five
point lead despite only shooting only one free throw to
Northwood’s 10 attempts.
Stephenson led the Cardinals and all players in scoring for the
game with 22, while team Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe)
led all players in rebounds with 15.
With the loss the Cardinals fall to 5-15 overall and 5- in the
GLIAC, while Northwood moves to overall and in the GLIAC. Saginaw
Valley State will return to action at 8:00 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 12)
as they take on Ashland in the first of two Pink Wave games to show
support for the American Cancer Society. Game 2 will take place at
3:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 14) when breast cancer survivors from
across Michigan will be recognized during a halftime presentation.
