Cardinals Tame Bulldogs, 93-84

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State men’s basketball team defeated the Ferris State Bulldogs today (Jan. 10), 93-84, for their second conference win.

Saginaw Valley was led in scoring by senior guard Dante Williams (Romulus, Mich.) with a game high of 27 points, 21 of which were scored in the second half. Junior forward Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich.) sank 20 points, 18 of which came in the second half.

In the first half, the Cardinals were led by junior forward Adam Gries (Fremont, OH) with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. Junior guard Ronald Ferguson (Lansing, Mich.) also added eight points in the first stanza to give the Cardinals a 10 point advantage going into halftime.

In the second half, the Cardinals capitalized on the Bulldogs’ 10 turnovers, giving Saginaw Valley as a big of lead as 24 points. Stephenson went 10-for-11 from the line and Williams shot 5-for-6 from the floor. AS a team in the second half SVSU shot 66.7 percent from the field.

With the win Saginaw Valley moves to 2-10 overall and 2-6 in the GLIAC, while Ferris State drops to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will return to action at 8 p.m. on Thursday (Jan.15) when they host Wayne State.
