UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw
Valley State men’s basketball team made it a perfect week by
slaying the Tiffin Dragons today (Feb. 14), 91-62.
In the first half of action the Cardinals went into the locker
room, 34-17. Senior Dante Williams (Romulus, Mich. / East Tenn.
State Univ.) led both teams in scoring with a total of 10 points
and shot 50 percent from the three-point line. Junior Adam Gries
(Fremont, Ohio / Ross HS) pulled down 10 of his 11 rebounds, seven
of which were on defense. Junior Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich. /
Nebraska-Kearney) also contributed nine points and grabbed nine
rebounds.
Saginaw Valley stayed strong throughout the whole game as Williams
charted 11 of his 21 total points in the second half. Stephenson
also notched in 11 points and had six rebounds off the glass,
finishing the night with a double-double, 20 points and 15
rebounds. Freshman Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS)
had eight of his 11 points and also dished four assists.
With the win, the Cardinals move to 7-15 overall and 7-11 in the
GLIAC, while Tiffin falls to 2-21 overall and 1-17 in the GLIAC.
The Cardinals are back in action Feb. 19 as they travel to Big
Rapids, Mich. to take on Ferris State with an 8 p.m. tip-off time.
