UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team hosted Wayne State University tonight (Jan. 15)and ended up on the losing end of a hard fought battle by a score of 66-53.
The Cardinals entered the locker room at the half leading by a
score of 30-29. Dante Williams (Romulus, Mich. / East Tenn. State)
racked up 18 of his game high 24 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the
floor in the first half. Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich. /
Nebraska-Kearney) dropped in eight points on 3-of-6 shooting in the
half.
Josh Eisenga (McBain, Mich. / McBain HS) pulled down four of his
six rebounds and Stephenson notched a team high eight points and
also pulled down three rebounds to pace the Cardinals in the second
half. Saginaw Valley shot 70% from the free throw line, sinking
12-of-17 shots ffor the game.
With the loss the Cardinals fall to 2-11 overall, and 2-7 in the
GLIAC, while Wayne State moves to 6-7 overall, and 4-5 in the
GLIAC. Saginaw Valley returns to action on Saturday, January 17 at
3:00p.m. when they will host Northwood University in the James E.
O’Neil Jr. Arena.
