UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Cardinals
of SVSU men’s basketball team played #1 ranked University of
Findlay today (Jan. 31). In a physical game, Saginaw Valley fell,
80-58.
Saginaw Valley had the lead early in the first half, but
couldn’t hold it until the end of regulation play. Junior
guard Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich. / Nebraska-Kearney Univ.)
led the Cardinals with 10 points, going 2-for-3 from beyond the
three point line and pulled down four rebounds. Senior guard Dante
Williams (Romulus, Mich. / East Tennessee State Univ.) contributed
seven points.
The second half was evenly balanced scoring wise as Williams had
nine and grabbed two boards and finished the game with 16 points.
Stephenson scored eight of his team high 18 points. Freshman point
guard Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe) led the
Cardinals in rebounds with six.
With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 5-13 overall, 5-8 in the
GLIAC as Findlay remains undefeated, 18-0 overall and 14-0 in the
GLIAC. The Cardinals are back in action as they travel to Detroit,
Mich. to play Wayne State Thursday (Feb. 5).
