Cardinals Capture Big Win Over Wildcats, 70-64

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team captured a big win over Northern Michigan University tonight (Feb. 26) by a score of 70-64.

Senior guard Dante Williams (Romulus Mich. / East Tennessee State University) led both teams scoring wise in the first half with nine. Junior forward Adam Gries (Fremont, Ohio / Ross HS) was second with eight points and also pulled down four rebounds. Freshman guard Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS) led both teams in rebounding with seven and also contributed four points, six assists and one block. As a team, the Cardinals out rebounded the Wildcats 19-16 in the first half of play.

Junior guard Avery Stephenson (Romulus Mich. / Nebraska-Kearney) led both teams with 23 points, he also grabbed four rebounds and had four assists on the night. Foster finished the game with a double-double, 10 points, 13 rebounds, he also had seven assists and three steals. Gries ended with 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Williams finished the night with 16 points.

With the win, the Cardinals rise to 7-17 overall and 7-13 in the GLIAC while Northern Michigan falls to 11-14 overall and 6-14 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 28) as they take on Michigan Tech in the last home game of this season.
