Mike Ancona enters his eighth season as the offensive line coach for the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals.

In 2015, he helped coach the offense to 377.9 yards per game. He also coached Will Farr and Marq Johnson to All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. In the 2014 season, Ancona helped SVSU's offense to 267.4 yards per game. He also helped coach senior offensive linemen Logan Hauserman and Jesse Somsel to the 2014 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team. In 2013 the Cardinal offense to averaged 490.2 yards per game and 40.5 points per game with First Team All-GLIAC member Tevon Conrad anchoring the line.  In 2012, the Cardinals offensive line was an integral part of an Offense that set 17 school and conference records.  In his tenure at SVSU, Ancona has coached 12 offensive linemen to All-GLIAC honors and looks to improve upon this number in the upcoming season.

Before coming to SVSU, Ancona was the offensive line coach for Head Coach Jim Collins at Capital University from 2000-2007.  During those years in Columbus, the Crusader offensive line anchored an offense that broke over 40 school records.  Prior to his days at Capital, Ancona spent 5 seasons as an assistant offensive line coach at John Carroll University in Cleveland.  

In his 18 seasons as a collegiate offensive line coach, Ancona has helped shape one Rimington Award winner, eight All-Americans, and 26 All-Conference selections.


Ancona played for four seasons on the John Carroll University offensive line before coming over to the sidelines as a graduate assistant for the Blue Streaks in 1995.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in History in 1994.


Ancona resides in Saginaw, Michigan.
