UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. —  The Saginaw Valley State Football team bounced back after a tough couple weeks of conference play to take down Davenport University Saturday afternoon (Oct. 7). The Cardinals defeated the Panthers with a stellar all around team preformance, completing their second shutout of the season, 33-0.

SVSU first got on the board at the 6:33 mark of the first quarter with a 42 yard pass from Ryan Conklin, who found Marcus Edmondson at the 20 yard line and head to the endzone for a touchdown. With Alex Kenrick's kick good, the Cardinals head to a 7-0 lead.

Second quarter brought SVSU two scoring plays, with the first coming a 13:40 with a four yard run for Nate McCrary. Kendrick's kick was blocked by the Panther defense, leaving SVSU at a 13-0 lead.

Next play came at the 10:40 mark by another great pass from Conklin who found Chad Gailliard in the endzone for a 39 yard pass completion and the third touchdown for the Cardinals. Davenport now trailed 20-0 with a clean field goal from Kendrick.

After the half, the Saginaw Valley defense shined with a scoring play at the 2:36 mark in the third quarter. Damaris Woods grabbed a fumble recovery in the endzone, giving Saginaw a lead of 26-0. 

In the final quarter, the Cardinal cornerback Donnell Alexander posted a 19 yard interception return and with Tyler Marcus's kick good, the Saginaw Valley State team earned their final score of the night, 33-0.

The Cardinal defense stayed strong throughout the game, forcing three turnovers to help seal the shutout victory.

• Saginaw Valley outgained Davenport by a 318-44 margin in total offense, with the Cardinal defense allowing just 35 yards passing and nine rushing.
• Davenport was forced to punt nine times.
McCrary earned 61 rushing yards and one touchdown.
• Conklin finished 14-of-22 passing for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
 Gailliard had 54 yards receiving on just three catches with one touchdown.
Tommy Scott Jr. posted 60 rushing yards off of 20 attempts.
Dillon Dixon and Bryan Jones both earned a total of seven tackles.
• Cardinal defense earned a total of 72 tackles.
