The SVSU football team hosts Northwood on Homecoming in the 40th-Annual Axe Bowl on Saturday (10/25) night at 7:00 pm at Wickes Stadium.

Last Saturday (10/18), the Cardinals lost to the Lake Erie Storm 24-21.  SVSU scored all of their points in the first half, which included a 97 yard kickoff return by David Nay.  It was the first kickoff returned for a touchdown by Saginaw Valley since Matt Black did it on November 11, 2006 against Hillsdale.  Tyler Palka led the offense with 190 total yards and one touchdown, while Andrew Dillon hauled in six receptions for 84 yards and one touchdown.

The Timberwolves are 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the GLIAC this year.  Northwood is coming off a 35-33 victory over Findlay last Saturday.  The Cardinals defeated the Timberwolves last year by a final score of 44-28 on Homecoming at Wickes Stadium.  SVSU has won the last four of five meetings and lead the all time series, 25-14-1.
