Football Program Raising Funds for Cancer Awareness

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University football team will be participating in a "Game to Remember" Cancer Awareness Fundraiser this week in conjunction with the team's homecoming matchup with Northwood University on Saturday night.

Fans and the community are asked to donate $5 and they will be given a pink helmet decal, on which they can write the name of a cancer survivor or victim.  An SVSU player will wear that label during Saturday's game to honor that individual.

These helmet decals will be sold on campus, outside of the Marketplace at Doan (11:30 am - 1:00 pm) and the Library (1:00 pm - 2:00 pm) Tuesday through Thursday.  Sales will continue prior to the football game on Saturday.

"We are excited to be a part of such a worthwhile fundraiser and cause," said SVSU Head Coach Jim Collins.  "The impact that the money raised will have makes this a very important piece in our efforts to help others and give back to the community."

All donations will go to benefit the MidMichigan - Midland Cancer Fund.  The fund helps local cancer patients off-set the costs associated with their treatments.  It's used to help the patients with transportation and lodging costs as well as the costs for ancillary medical supplies, including: wigs, scarfs and other head wear.
