Janis Earns GLIAC "Offensive Player of the Week" Honors after Record-Breaking Performance

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior wideout Jeff Janis (Tawas, Mich.) was named the GLIAC "Offensive Player of the Week" for leading the Cardinals to a 51-24 victory over Lake Erie College in a record-breaking performance as SVSU improves to 3-1 on the year. This marks the second time this season that Janis has received this designation.

Janis had a record breaking game against Lake Erie College as he hauled in 12 catches for a GLIAC and school record 300 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' 51-24 win.  Janis had four catches of 30 yards or more (36, 45, 52 and 73) as he helped quarterback Jonathon Jennings also break the school record for passing yards in a game with 511.  The previous SVSU passing and receiving yard marks were set in 2003 by former Cardinal standouts Mark Radlinski (431 yards passing) and Glenn Martinez (234 yards receiving) against Ferris State.

Janis finished the contest with 12 catches for a school and conference record 300 yards and a long 73-yard touchdown reception from Jonathon Jennings (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South HS).

Through four games this season, Jeff has caught 37 passes for 691 yards averaging an NCAA leading 172.8 yards per contest and 18.7 yards per reception.

The Cardinals begin their march through the GLIAC North this upcoming weekend on Saturday (Sept. 29) when they host Ferris State for Homecoming and Draper First Responders Night. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
