Janis Named GLIAC "Offensive Player of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior wideout Jeff Janis (Tawas, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" for leading the Cardinals to a 28-24 victory over then No. 8 Valdosta State University (Ga.) in the team's season opener last Saturday. Ohio Dominican University senior defensive back Eisen Hardy (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) earned "Defensive Player of the Week" honors, while Grand Valley State University junior defensive back/punt returner Reggie Williams (Lansing, Mich./Everett) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

Janis hauled in 14 catches for a game-high 167 yards and three scores to help lead the Cardinals to a 28-24 upset win over then No. 8 Valdosta State. Janis scored his first TD of the game early in the second quarter on a two-yard slant. His second touchdown was a 22-yard over-the-shoulder catch in the corner of the endzone. His third, and final, TD came on a slant from 24-yards out. His biggest catch of the game came late in the fourth quarter. With the Cardinals down 24-21 and facing a 4th and 9, Janis was able to get open for a 19-yard completion that set the stage for the Cardinals winning touchdown. 

SVSU will return to action Saturday (Sept. 8) when they travel to Malone to play their 2012 GLIAC opener.
