Callaway Signs With Lions, Jacobs, DeRosia and Stone Offered Tryouts

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Former Sagainaw Valley State University football defensive tackle Rob Callaway signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Detroit Lions today (Apr. 30), while two time All-American John Jacobs and All-GLIAC performer Jordon DeRosia were offered a try-out by the Lions. All-GLIAC selection Galen Stone, a tight end for the Cardinals, was also offered a try-out by the Cleveland Browns.

Callaway, a defensive tackle for the Cardinals the past four season had a breakout year in 2008 before testing strong at his junior pro day for scouts.  He carried that momentum over into 2009, as he was a key figure in leading SVSU back to the post season for the first time since 2005.  He started all 11 games in 2009 and ended the season with 22 tackles (six for loss) and three and half sacks as he faced double and triple teams all season.  He was also a force on special teams, as he blocked three kicks in 2009.  His size (6-4, 307) and 40 time (4.9) helped him catch the eyes of scouts as he worked out in preparation for the 2010 draft.

Jacobs, a two-time All-American who led the nation in tackles in 2009 and was third in 2008, was invited to try-out by the Detroit Lions.  He will be joined by All-GLIAC offensive lineman Jordan DeRosia, who over the past two seasons has helped the Cardinals running game become one of the best in the GLIAC.

Galen Stone, the Cardinals leading reciever the past two seasons, has been invited for a try-out with the Cleveland Browns.  Stone had 44 catches and six touchdowns in 2009 to lead SVSU.

SVSU currently has three players on NFL rosters; Todd Herremans with the Eagles, Ruvell Martin with the Seahawks and Glenn Martinez with the Texans.
