Red Defeats White in Annual Spring Game, 6-2

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University football team hosted their annual Spring Game today (April 16).  The Red Team came out victorious over the White Team, 6-2.

Running back Ronnie Lark (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic HS) lit up the scoreboard for the Red Team with 9:47 remaining in the first quarter on a 51-yard touchdown.  Wide receiver Nick Gallina (Troy, Mich.) gained 34 yards on a reception from the hands of Chuck Dowdell (Ft. Wayne, Ind.).   With just 2:46 left in the first half, defensive end Brandon Williams (Flint, Mich./Kearsley HS) picked up a sack on a fourth down for the White Team.
Williams would also pick up two more sacks in the second quarter, one for safety to put the White Team on the scoreboard.  Two additional sacks were made in the third quarter in the White Team's favor, one by Williams and one from Josh Osbun (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS).
 
The Red Team would regain the possession of the ball on a fumble recovery off a bad snap to set up a 26-yard pass from Dowdell to Zach Cecich (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) with 11:11 remaining in the game.  A fourth down interception for Keiton Winston (Woodhaven, Mich./Carlson HS) would give possession of the ball back to the White Team at the 8:44 mark.  Both Williams and Anthony Iacovoni (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) picked up a sack in the fourth quarter with 3:19 remaining for the White Team while Grant Caserta (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) and Joshua Fulton (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka HS) both would pick up sacks with under two minutes remaining in the contest.  Williams would end the game with three solo and one assisted tackle.
