GLIAC Saginaw Valley State Baseball sophomore utility player Mason Schwellenbach earned GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors, while infielder, Jordan Swiss, earned GLIAC Player of the Week accolades, for their efforts in the weekend split against the Hillsdale Chargers.

Schwellenbach went 1-0 on the mound for the Cardinals in the 2018 season in series finale against the Hillsdale Chargers Monday (Feb.19) afternoon. It was in relief of Schwellenbach, who tossed the first 5.0 innings. He allowed just a single earned run, striking-out eight batters and walking three. The eight strikeouts are a new career-high for the sophomore.

Shortstop Swiss got off to a great start for the Cardinals in a weekend series against Hillsdale. Swiss hit .615, going 8-for-13 with three doubles, four RBI and a trio of walks. He added a steal while slugging .846 on the weekend.

Saginaw Valley is off until the weekend of Mar. 2, when they begin their spring trip with a four-game series at Maryville University. You can follow all of the action for the trip at svsucardinals.com on the baseball schedule page.
