XENIA, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team had five student-athletes honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) by being named to respective All-GLIAC Baseball teams for their play during the 2015 season.

Michael Ellenbest was named the 2015 GLIAC Freshman "Pitcher of the Year" and Second Team All-GLIAC while junior Scott Sency (LHP) and senior Chris Perkovich (3B) were also voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team by the league's head coaches.  Senior Jeff Schalk (RHP) and sophomore Chad Carson (2B) were named to the 2015 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team.

Ellenbest had a stellar first season on the mound for the Cardinals.  He posted a 4-2 league record with an ERA of 0.97.  He twirled two complete games, posting one shutout and combining for another in a nine-inning affair.  He posted 44 strikeouts in just 37.0 innings pitched in the GLIAC, holding hitters to an average of .187.  Ellenbest finished the season with four consecutive victories and 26.0 scoreless innings.

Sency was 4-3 in league action, recording a 2.33 ERA in seven starts.  He posted 28 strikeouts in his 38.2 innings pitched.  His overall ERA of 2.32 ranked him third in the GLIAC and he had one complete game to go along with a combined shoutout.

Perkovich had a .361 batting average in 31 league games for the 2015 season.  He posted 44 hits, five doubles, an on-base percentage of .423 and added three stolen bases.  Perkovich also drew nine walks, was hit by five pitches and scored 16 runs in league play.

Schalk had a solid 1.56 ERA in his 14 league appearances for the 2015 campaign.  He had one save and held oppenents to a .221 batting average in his 34.2 innings pitched.  He posted six strikeouts and allowed just six earned runs in the GLIAC.

Carson led the team in batting average (.394) overall for the season and in league play as well with a .390 mark.  He had 48 hits, 20 runs, nine doubles, a triple, 17 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .457.  Carson drew a team-best 14 walks in the GLIAC as well while playing in all 32 games.  He was stellar in the field as well, posting a .974 fielding percentage at the second base position.
