NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The SVSU baseball team dropped a pair of contests on the road to the Walsh University Cavaliers on Sunday (May 3) afternoon.  The Cardinals fell in the opener by a 13-5 score before dropping the nightcap, 4-1.

Game One

The Cards got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Chad Carson and Kyle Kaufmann had back-to-back doubles to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.  

Walsh would answer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, one in the third and five more in the third inning to take the lead and extend it out to 8-1.

SVSU added another three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half at 8-4.  A bases-loaded walk to D.J. Arnold scored Pete Baumgartner and the other runs came on a Chris Perkovich RBI single that plated Brendan Harrison and a Luke Valutis run that came off of a double play.

The Cavaliers added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-4 but the Cardinals responded with another run to make the score 9-5 when Kaufmann drilled his fourth home run of the year.

After Walsh tacked-on another four runs in the sixth inning to make the score 13-5.  That's what the final score would remain as the Cavs closed-out for the victory.

The Cardinals had 10 hits in the contest, with Kaufmann going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBIs and a run scored.  Perkovich had two hits with an RBI as well.

Scott Sency took the loss on the mound, throwing 3.0 innings while allowing eight runs, only three of which were earned.  

Game Two

Walsh took an early lead in game two, scoring a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the second to grab the 3-0 advantage.

SVSU got a run in the top of the sixth when Brad Schalk scored on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Cavaliers added a run in the bottom half of the eighth to extend the lead to 4-1, which is where it would remain as the game's final score.

Saginaw Valley had eight hits in the second game, with Schalk going 3-for-5 in the contest with a run.  Carson added a pair of hits for the Cardinals.

Bailey Magsig took the loss on the hill in the second game, working 5.0 innings while allowing three runs on six hits.  None of the runs were earned.  

Saginaw Valley finishes its 2015 season with a 20-20-1 overall record and 14-17-1 mark in the GLIAC.
