Cardinals Notch 10-2 Victory Over USciences

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team improved its record to 3-0 for the 2015 season after posting a 10-2 victory over the University of Sciences on Monday afternoon (Mar. 2).

The Cardinals broke the game open right away in the top of the first inning, going for six runs, using four hits to grab the 6-0 advantage.  Kyle Kaufmann had a two-RBI triple to plate a pair of runs while Chad Carson, Brendan Harrison, Dylan Schultz and David Arnold all knocked-in runs as well.

An Austin Plasterer two-RBI single scored Schultz and Kaufmann in the top of the 3rd, making the score 8-0.

SVSU added two runs in the top of the 5th to push the lead out to 10-0, as Arnold added an RBI single to score Harrison and Austin Plasterer had a sac fly to score Brad Schalk.

Saginaw held off two Devils runs to finish-off the 10-2 victory.

Bailey Magsig recorded the victory on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings while allowing just a single run and five hits.  It was his first victory in a Cardinal uniform.

Kaufmann, Harrison and Plasterer all had two hits in the game, with Plasterer adding three ribbies and Kaufmann two.  Arnold had two RBIs while Kaufmann, Schalk and Schultz all scored twice.

Saginaw Valley returns to action Tuesday (Mar. 3) morning with a 10:00 am matchup with the Cedarville Yellowjackets.  SVSU defeated Cedarville Sunday by a score of 7-3.
