CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team opened-up play at the 2011 GLIAC Baseball Tournament with a 6-4 loss to the #2 team in the nation, the Grand Valley State University Lakers.

The Lakers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.

SVSU responded by putting up a three-spot in the top of the third to take a one-run advantage.  With the bases loaded and two outs, Drew Woock (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) laced a three-run double to right center, scoring Ryan Ermers (Sterling Heights, Mich./Ford II HS), Matt Hunt (Howell, Mich./Concordia University) and Kyle Parks (Flushing, Mich.).

Grand Valley knotted things at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth and used a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-3 advantage.

SVSU's final run would come in the top of the ninth, as Parks scored on a balk by Grand Valley closer Brad Zambron.  The Lakers, however, would close-out for the 6-4 victory.

The Cardinals managed only six hits in the contest, with Woock accounting for two of them with all three of the Cardinals' RBI's.

Carson Beauchaine (Fraser, Mich.), who handed the Lakers their only conference loss in 2011, took the loss on the hill, working 5.1 innings, allowing six earned runs and striking-out only three.

The Cardinals will face Ashland University, who lost a 12-inning thriller to Wayne State, in another 3:00 p.m. contest tomorrow (5/13).
