COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team split a doubleheader today (4/21) on the road with the Ohio Dominican Panthers in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.  The Cardinals took the opener by a score of 4-1 before falling in the nightcap by a 6-3 count.  The split puts SVSU at 15-19 overall on the season and 10-12 in GLIAC play.

The Cardinals scored single runs in each of the first two innings to hold a 2-1 lead after RBI base-knocks by Kyle O'Boyle (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) and Matt Hunt (Howell, Mich./Concordia University).  SVSU would plate single runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively, and hold the Panthers the rest of the way to claim the 4-1 victory.  The same combo would drive in those runs as well, with O'Boyle belting his fifth homer in the top of the sixth, a solo shot.  A Hunt single in the seventh scored Kyle Parks (Flushing, Mich.) to extend the lead to three.

Hunt was 3-for-3 in the contest with a pair of doubles and two RBI's while O'Boyle was 2-for-3 with a pair of ribbies.  Parks was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Carson Beauchaine (Fraser, Mich.) got the victory on the mound, working 6.2 innings while scattering seven hits and striking-out five, improving to 4-3 overall on the year.  Justin Drzewicki (Bay City, Mich./Central HS) worked the last third to pick-up his fourth save of the season.

SVSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the third inning of the second game after a two-RBI double off the bat of Drew Woock (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS).

The Panthers responded with three runs in the bottom of four to take the 3-2 lead.  Another Hunt RBI single, though, would knot the score at 3-3.  Ohio Dominican would then add another three runs in the bottom of the fifth, which gave them the 6-3 lead they would end with.

Eric Hummel (Menominee, Mich./Minnesota-Duluth) took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and giving-up six runs.

The Cardinals managed only five hits in the contest, with Woock having two RBI's and Hunt being responsible for the third.

The two teams will meet-up again on Saturday (4/21) for the last two games of the weekend series.
