UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team improved to 11-15 overall on the season today (4/12) with an 11-9 non-conference victory over the visiting Alma College Scots.

The Cardinals got out to a quick lead, plating a single run in each of the first three innings to hold a 3-0 advantage.  A pair of RBI singles by Kyle O'Boyle (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) and an error contributed to the first three runs for SVSU.

Alma scored a run in the top of the fourth to close the gap a bit, but SVSU exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to grab a 10-1 lead.  O'Boyle posted two doubles in the frame, including a bases-clearing knock in his second at-bat of the inning.

The Scots notched three runs in the top of seventh to make the score 10-4, but a Kevin Corbeil (Sterling Heights, Mich./De La Salle HS) RBI single made the score 11-4, which is where it would stand heading into the ninth inning.

Alma scored five runs in the top of the ninth to cut the lead to 11-9, but that's all it would get, as SVSU closed-out for the two run victory.

O'Boyle had a stellar day at the plate for the Cardinals, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBI's.  Kyle Parks (Flushing, Mich.) and Eric Burt (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) each went 2-for-3, with Parks posting two RBI's and Burt scoring four times.  Michael Craig (Milan, Mich.) posted his first two career RBI's in the contest as well.

Steven Janes (Chesterton, Ind.) got the win on the mound after a solid start, allowing only a single run on four hits while striking-out five.

The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow, as they host GLIAC foe Wayne State University in a mid-week doubleheader.  Wayne State enters the match-up with an 18-8 overall record and 10-4 mark in league play.
