Cardinals Swept By Hillsdale, 11-4 and 6-2

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team dropped a pair of contests at Hillsdale College on Saturday afternoon (3/26).  The sweep drops the Cardinals to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

In game one, Hillsdale held a 5-2 lead after three innings.  Hillsdale would erupt for six runs in the bottom of the sixth and would hold the lead throughout the contest, closing-out for an 11-4 victory.

Dustin Mayner (Gaines, Mich./Linden HS) and Drew Woock (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) each posted a pair of hits in the opener, with Woock adding two RBI's.  Chet LaFave (Charlotte, Mich./Olney Central College) picked-up a pair of runs batted-in as well, knocking a two-run home run in the top of the second inning.  

Carson Beauchaine (Fraser, Mich.) took the loss on the mound to fall to 1-2 overall on the season.

In the nightcap, the Chargers posted four runs in the bottom of the third inning to hold a 4-1 advantage.  Hillsdale would hang on for a 6-2 victory after scoring another pair in the bottom of six.

SVSU would only manage four hits in the second game, as LaFave, Mayner, Trent Brisboe (Hastings, Mich.) and Brandon Schwanz (Novi, Mich./Henry Ford CC) all picked up a hit.

 Colin Coulter (Clio, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) took the loss on the mound, working 5 1/3 innings in the contest.

The Cardinals face-off against the Chargers on Sunday (3/27) for another GLIAC doubleheader.  First pitch is set for noon.
