UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team completed a season sweep of the Findlay Oilers (7-15, 3-8 GLIAC), defeating the visitors by scores of 7-1 and 19-4 in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 31).  With the two victories, the Cardinals improve to 10-10 overall on the season with a 7-4 record in the GLIAC.

Game One

The opener saw SVSU score a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.  In the first, a Kevin Dore (Kawkawlin, Mich./Muskegon CC) double scored Matt Hunt (Howell, Mich./Concordia University) from first base to get things going.  Dore would steal third base and score on a single up the middle by Ryan Webber (Clio, Mich./Powers Catholic HS).  The second inning featured solo home runs by Josh Peterson (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) and Chase Coulter (Clio, Mich./Powers Catholic HS), with each shot being their first round-trippers of the 2010 season.

The Cardinals would get one run in their half of the fifth inning on a Ryan Ermers (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II HS) single, which scored Dore, who had doubled to center field.  SVSU would round-out its scoring in the bottom of the sixth, as Kyle O'Boyle (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) would lead-off with a solo shot to center field.  Peterson would walk, proceed to steal second and third bases, then score on a sacrifice fly by Coulter.

Carson Beauchaine (Fraser, Mich.) picked-up his first collegiate victory, scattering six hits over six innings while only allowing one run and two walks.

Dore and Peterson each had two hits in the opener, with Dore having two doubles and Peterson a home run.  O'Boyle and Coulter each had a hit, both home runs, while Hunt, Ermers and Webber also added singles in the contest.

Game Two

The nightcap saw Saginaw seven runs in their half of the first and eight in the bottom of two.  The first was highlighted by a two-run home run by Webber, which scored Ermers.  Hunt would also triple to left-center to score Coulter and Peterson.  In the second inning, Peterson knocked a single through the left side which scored Charlie Thomas (Northville, Mich.) and Webber.  Hunt would add a two RBI single that scored Dustin Mayner (Gaines, Mich./Linden HS) and Peterson.

SVSU would add two more runs in the third inning, as O'Boyle would lead off with a home run for the second time on the day.  And Ermers single would score Coulter to cap the scoring for the inning.

The Cards would score their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Drew Woock (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) led-off the inning with a solo home run.  A Jason Potts (Hartland, Mich.) single through the left side would score Eric Burt (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) for SVSU's final run of the day.

Scott Haase (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Sacred Heart Academy) improved his record to 3-0 on the season, as he worked five innings, giving up four runs on five Oiler hits.

Ermers went 4-for-4 in the second game, with a double and three RBI's.  Webber was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI's, while O'Boyle was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI's.  Hunt went 2-for-2 with four RBI's, while Peterson and Coulter each added a pair of hits and two RBI's in the nightcap.
