Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State University appointed John Decker to serve as Interim Director of Athletics in December of 2017.  He thereafter assumed duties as the University's Athletics Director on a permanent basis in September, 2018.

Decker joined SVSU in 2014 as Associate Vice President and General Counsel. Previously, he was a long-time member of the Saginaw-based law firm Braun Kendrick, which included serving for 12 years as the firm's managing partner.

A Saginaw native, Decker obtained his bachelor's degree at the University of Nebraska, where he also was a member of the Cornhuskers' 1970 National Championship football team. He earned a law degree at Duke University in 1974.

Decker also will hold an appointment as Associate Vice President for Legal Affairs, although his primary responsibilities will devoted to the SVSU Athletics Department. His wife Sally is a professor of nursing at SVSU; they have two adult children.
