SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Katie Schultz

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

Our next senior being featured today is Women's Basketball student-athlete and co-captain Katie Schultz. Katie is a guard / small forward from Bark River, Michigan who has been on the team for the past four seasons. She played in 84 career games for the Cardinals with 32 starts. Schultz helped the Cards back to the GLIAC Tournament this season and was a member of the 2016-17 squad that claimed the GLIAC North Division title and advanced to the NCAA Division II Round of 32.

Katie's favorite spot on campus is the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena, which is the home of the SVSU Women's Basketball team.

Her favorite memories while competing for Saginaw Valley are when the team played in the GLIAC Tournament in her freshman and senior seasons and played in the NCAA Division II Tournament in her freshman campaign. Katie's favorite road trip at SVSU was when the team played in Florida over Christmas break in her freshman season.

Schultz is a biology major who is set to graduate in May 2020. Her plan after graduation is to obtain an outdoor biology job.

Outside of athletics, Katie enjoys hunting. She enjoys being outside and the atmosphere of camp. One of her talents is that she can polka dance.

Katie Schultz on her experience at SVSU...

"My basketball career has taught me so many lessons while allowing me to participate in the sport that I love. I formed so many life-long relationships and have memories that will last me a lifetime."

SVSU Women's Basketball Head Coach Jenny Pruett on Katie Schultz...

"Katie is a natural born leader. She works hard on and of the court and is a great example to her teammates. She is all about the team and puts that first in everything she does. Katie is going to do great things with her future because she is a team player. She knows what it takes to be successful and is willing to do her part."
