SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Brandon Wise

SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Brandon Wise

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com over the next few weeks to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

We continue our series today with a feature of SVSU Baseball student-athlete Brandon Wise. Brandon is a right-handed pitcher who is a native of Auburn, Michigan, where he prepped at Bay City Western and helped lead the team to a 2014 Division I state title. He has been a member of the team since the 2017 season, appearing in 42 games with 25 starts. He has collected 12 victories with 112 strikeouts in his 161.2 innings pitched. Wise started 2020 with a 3-0 record, posting an ERA of just 1.64 with 24 strikeouts in 22.0 innings of work.

Wise's favorite memory while competing for the Cardinals was the team's run to the 2019 GLIAC Tournament championship game.

His favorite road trip at SVSU was the past spring break trip to Florida, as he enjoyed the opportunity to play in warm weather.

Brandon's favorite spot on campus is the FOC. Outside of baseball, he enjoys hunting and fishing. He thoroughly enjoys being on the water or in the woods because it's peaceful and something that puts your mind at ease.

Wise is a criminal justice major at SVSU. He plans on working in the skilled trades and eventually running his own business in the future.

Brandon Wise on his time as an SVSU Baseball Student-Athlete...

"I am really glad I got the opportunity to play for Coach Jaksa, as he really helped me develop as a pitcher. Playing sports at the collegiate level helped me learn a lot about myself and taught me how to persevere through tough times."

SVSU Baseball Head Coach Steve Jaksa on Brandon Wise...

"Brandon continually improved and evolved as a pitcher, moving into the rotation and eventually becoming our Friday lead-off guy to set the tone. He possesses the attitude and personality that you want all of your players to embrace. Brandon isn't much of a vocal leader, but he has a certain type of intensity and will to win that can't be questioned when competing. He has all of the qualities that you want in a person, as he is very selfless, treats his teammates right and embraces the teaching that you give him. It was fun to watch Brandon continue to develop into the pitcher and person that he is today!"
