SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Mikayla Alexandrou

SVSU Cardinal Senior Spotlight - Mikayla Alexandrou

Saginaw Valley State University Athletics will be releasing a series of student-athlete spotlights, which will feature some of our Cardinal senior student-athletes from the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned to www.svsucardinals.com over the next few weeks to get to know our SVSU seniors a bit more.

Next up in our series is Softball student-athlete and native of Southgate, Michigan, Mikayla Alexandrou. Mikayla is a left-handed pitcher for the Cardinals who has appeared in 52 career games with 35 starts. She has collected 13 victories with three saves, totaling 12 complete games in 193.2 innings of work. She has struck-out 104 batters as well. Alexandrou was a key pitcher for the Cardinals in their back-to-back runs to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional #2 Tournament in the 2017 and 2018 seasons and the GLIAC Tournament title in 2017.

Alexandrou's favorite memories while competing for Saginaw Valley are when she hit a home run as a freshman, winning the GLIAC Tournament championship in 2017 and going to Florida for spring break games. Her favorite road trip was this past spring, when the Cardinals finished their Florida trip 11-1 to push their overall mark to 16-2.

Mikayla's favorite spot on campus is the SVSU Fieldhouse. She enjoys hanging out with family and friends outside of athletics and one of her talents is that she can do a backflip.

Alexandrou is a health science major and she aspires to be an occupational therapist when she completes school.

SVSU Softball Head Coach Todd Buckingham on Mikayla Alexandrou...

"What an amazing person we were lucky to have in our program with Mikayla. She was a great teammate and someone that every player wanted to be around. We had some clutch wins with her on the mound, and I wish this year could have worked out differently for her. Regardless, 'good ol' Lefty' will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her caring personality and those home runs she hit in the fall of her freshman year!. We will definitely miss Mikayla!"
