Women's 4 x 400 Relay Team Breaks School Record at GVSU Tune-up

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's indoor track & field team began the weekend by having several of its student-athletes participate in the 2014 GVSU Tune-up meet in preparation for next weekend's GLIAC Indoor Championships.

The women were led by a fantastic 4 x 400 meter relay performance, as Diamond Taylor, Kim Balls, Ola Hendler and Shavonne Roberson broke a school indoor record in the event with a runner-up finish.  The ladies crossed the line with a time of 3:52.27, besting the 2013 mark of 3:52.54.  The new school record was an NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying mark as well.

Taylor would continue on and shine in the women's 400 meter dash, winning the event with a time of 57.22, almost a full second ahead of the second place finisher.

Anna Fochesato also posted a first place finish, claiming a top spot in the high jump.  Fochesato cleared a height of 5'5" (1.65m).  Fochesato would continue and take first place once again with a mark of 35'8.5" in the triple jump.

Emerald Joiner racked-up another provisional qualifying number for the year as well, using a 56'7.5" toss in the weight throw while placing fourth.

A few of the Lady Cardinals will take part in tomorrow's U of M Silverston Invitational before next weekend's GLIAC Indoor Championships, which will be hosted by Hillsdale College this year.
