Saginaw Valley Competes in Day 2 of the NCAA DII National Championships

TURLOCK, Calif. - Saginaw Valley State University had three athletes, sophomore Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) and juniors Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) and Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS), compete in day two of the 2010-11 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.

Grob competed in day two of the decathlon and earned an overall fourth place finish with a point total of 6,685, garnering All-American honors.  After the first day of the decathlon Grob was placed sixth overall with a point total of 3,410.  He earned a second place finish in the shot put portion of the competition with a toss of 12.50meters.  He also had two fourth place finishes in the 100-meter and 400-meter, crossing the line at 11.16 and 51.31, respectively.  Earning marks of 5.94 meters and 1.79 meters in the long jump and high jump would also add to Grob's point total after the first day.   Grob started the second day with a 110-meter hurdle time of 15.59 placing him seventh.  He would earn a first place finish in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.50meters while also earning third place finishes in the discus throw and the 1,500-meter run with marks of 38.33meters and 4:45.46, respectively.

Stone competed in the prelims for the 1,500-meter run and crossed the line at 4:03.76, but would not qualify for the finals.  Willford would place ninth overall in the women's pole vault clearing a height of 3.67meters while teammate Wright also finished ninth in the 800-meter run crossing the line at 2:11.14.

With the conclusion of the meet the Cardinals end the 2010-11 season.
